Campos Altos Rotary Club Thirty Eight Years of Service.


Campos Altos Rotary Club has been successfully fulfilling its commitment for a club of service for thirty four years now, always aiming those actions in behalf of the community and being active in most of Rotary programs, whenever and wherever its presence is required or necessary.

The main and most meaningful club activities, in time and areas were:

· Setting Up, maintenance and administration of “rocinha” (Little Farm) or Community Vegetable garden. Altogether with the teaching of a new activity, food production, some revenue for the families involved in the process and the participation of abandoned and needy children, getting them out of the streets and bad company.

· Financing the construction of some medical offices, where today is the local hospital emergency room.

· Restoration of the old hospital pavilion roof.

· Playing an active part in fund raising campaigns for the acquisition of 40.000 M/A automatic processing X-Ray Devices, donated to the local Hospital facility.

· Financing the labor force for the new hospital electrical project.

· Permission to the Belo Horizonte Rotary Club, on the acquisition and donation to the Hospital of a Fetal monitor, gift of a North American hospital.

· Project Set Up of a Grant Project, involving a Rotary Club from India and approval from Rotary Foundation worth of US$-16.958,00 to help the acquisition of a brand new Intensive Care Unit for Children at the “Santa Casa de Misericórdia” County Hospital.

· Compromising Alaska Cancer Prevention Center to the donation of a mammography device, worth of US$-80.000,00.

· Restoration of São Vicente de Paula Elderly Home pavilion.

· Donation to the same institution a brand new 26 inches TV set.

· Accomplishment of Grant Project in benefit of that institution worth of US$-6.285,30, having Argentina as international partner, to the setting up of a revolutionary Physical Equipment Facility on the premises of that institution.

· Active action on building the Our Lady Aparecida stairway on its first stage ,as well as active participation on the second stage building, as the planting of Royal Palm Trees along the both sides of those stairways.

· Donation to the community of some receivers and satellite dishes.

· Construction of the Rotary Club facility, besides sheltering the members of the club, has been useful to the community.

· Construction of the Community Development Facility in Lázaro Leite neighborhood (former late member).

· Promotion of several speeches about the use of drugs by Mr. Murad J. Elias.

· Accomplishment of several campaigns concerning Christmas, Winter Help, Food, Traffic, etc.

· Accomplishment of a Children’s Grant, without any partnership from abroad or even a counter party benefiting the local orphanage;

· Worth of US$-18.000,00. This grant already approved by Rotary Foundation.





· The aim of this project was restoring 724,5 square meters of roofing in the entire facility, as well as promoting the acquisition of equipment, food, watering systems for the vegetable garden and helping the overall restoration necessary.
This project will allow that traditional institution to offer the necessary conditions to keep
up with their good work to the community and surroundings.
It was important to spot the necessity, to plan and get the green light to the project, even
more important it was to manage correctly the resources, the work, headed by fellow
Rotarian member, co-founder Mr. Oliveira Verdi Gomes.

· Having a private teacher to give students extra classes to those students in need of a more deep instruction.

· Gathering and participation of a huge, pioneer project of seven rotary clubs, which built along the dangerous freeways of the region, between Campos Altos and Luz cities, known as “the death row”, big billboards warning the drivers of that danger. This simple and effective project, has contributed to the reduction of 40% of car accidents in that area alone and has become a milestone for those clubs. Through the involvement of those clubs altogether with the members, a relatively low cost, the size of the project and the benefit brought, this has been one of the largest and succeeded projects ever performed by the Rotary Club.

· Active involvement on the Student Exchange Program, hosting 05 exchange students from all around the world, and having 06 outbound students to many countries in many continents.

· Campos Altos Rotary Club also innovated and in 1997 admitted the first woman as a permanent member, who was the President of the International Affairs, and in 2000 admitted another woman as a member.

· The club is proud to say that has already donated to the Rotary Foundation the amount at that rotary year the record of nominating ten Paul Harris members and the coming years, through grant projects, has nominated another eight members, having nowadays an amount of eighteen Paul Harris permanent members. That deed has put the club ahead of its time, with an average much superior to the total average of 4760 District, besides that club is the one that owns the most number Paul Harris members of inland Brazil.

· Accomplishment of a Grant Project worth of US$-7.300,00, having India as an international partner, already approved by the Rotary Foundation and resources directed to equip a physiotherapy facility in a mental institution in Campos Altos.

· Accomplishment of a Grant Project worth of US$-17.327,78 to help the restoration of the “Córrego do Engenho da Serra” Springs, related to the water supply in the town of Campos Altos, which was going through serious environmental problems. That spring is also the Misericórdia River stream, Paranaíba Basin, hence its big importance for the environment. That was an innovation first fulfilled by a club of service.

· Through some promotions and donations from the own rotaty members, it was acquired and implemented the meaningful and worthy Wheel Chair Bank, initially having fourteen pieces, already handed in a free, non-determined loan basis to those people who need a wheel chair, and cannot purchase one.

· Accomplishment of a Grant Project worth of US$ 31.916,00 to help equip the CHILD INTENSIVE CARE of new regional hospital which is almost finished in Campos Altos;

· Accomplishment of a Grant Project worth of US$ 26.852,00 to help donation of agricultural machinery in benefit of the “Associação de Pequenos Produtores da Agricultura Familiar Vida Nova”, in Campos Altos, MG, Brazil. That association, which targets have been idealized from the project “Planting Solidarity”, since 2001, have been, successfully searching alternative sources of income, for those low income engaged families in a situation of social risk between coffee harvesting . That activity is the city’s major source of income and one of the main work force around town, during harvesting. The association has been leasing lands and paying at the sum of 10% of the total of the final products.



· Though community donations, city hall support and the loans for agricultural machinery, which are not always fully available, or could be even be lent by their owners, on weekends and holidays, the 25 registered families have been planting, growing and harvesting rice, beans, corn and manioc. The final product of that harvesting, aside from expenses, has been equally distributed directly and proportionally among the registered families of the project.

· The Club even gave to the 4760 District in the rotary year of 88/89, the Governor João Sidney de Souza Filho, in 97/98 the Assistant Governor Jose Reinaldo Lemes and in 99/2000 , 2000/2001 the Assistant Governor Marcelo Macedo, who, in this rotary year 2002/2003 is the President of the Rotary Foundation District Committee and also the GSE Team Leader in visit to the USA.

Thus and at last, in each deed accomplished in behalf of the community, Campos Altos Rotary Club is making its history, which mix itself with the very history of this town. Since in most accomplishments and conquests in this town in the last 38 years, there have always been, one way or another, the active involvement and participation of CA Rotary Club.
